Welcome to Birch Class - Year 4/5

Mr Wilkerson, Miss Lewis and Mrs Moore

Our topic for the first term will be Vikings and Anglo Saxons. Children are encouraged to bring in anything related to our topic work to share with the class.

We will also be using Beowulf in English lessons, a story that fits with our topic, and using Michael Morpurgo’s (2007) retelling of the story.

In our first half-term, children will be learning about Electricity in Science.

Mathletics homework will be handed out on a Wednesday and should be completed by the following Tuesday.

Spellings will be issued on Monday for a test on Friday.

Children are asked to read at least three times a week (preferably daily) either with an adult or independently and to keep a brief record in their reading diary. Please support your child by listening to them read, asking questions about the text and helping with any unfamiliar words.

P.E. days:  Wednesday and Friday (multi-skills).

Year 4 students will also be doing a 30-minute Zumba session on Tuesday afternoons with a coach.

Please ensure your child has the appropriate PE kit in school at all times, particularly their outdoor kit as we will be endeavouring to do as much PE outdoors as we can before winter (see the school prospectus for details on what to provide for this).
